Eight Kent State University School of Art faculty and alumni have been awarded the Ohio Arts Council’s Individual Excellence Awards for 2023. Full-time faculty members Davin Ebanks (3D), Peter Christian Johnson (Crafts), Arron Foster (2D), and Shawn Powell (2D) were selected for the award, as well as part-time faculty in Foundations, Sharon Koelblinger. Two School of Art alumni including Mark Keffer, B.F.A. Students from the Junior Leadership of Columbiana County program who visited Kent State Salem.

Students from the Junior Leadership of Columbiana County program visited the Kent State Salem Campus where they learned about options for beginning their higher education journeys close to home. The students are sophomores and juniors representing Beaver Local, Columbiana, Crestview, Leetonia, Lisbon, Salem, United and Wellsville high schools. Geography Professor Named AAG Fellow

David Kaplan (center), professor in the Department of Geography, is one of three educators honored with the Distinguished Teaching Award, the highest teaching award a tenured or tenure-track professor can receive.

David Kaplan, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Geography in the College of Arts and Sciences at Kent State University, was recently named a fellow of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) in recognition for his significant contributions to advancing geography. The honorary title of AAG Fellow is conferred for life and is reserved for a small fraction of the membership who help to address, contribute to, and at times create initiatives to advance the discipline.
