A pair of Kent State University female pilots competed in the Air Race Classic for the second year in a row.  The competition is the oldest of its kind with roots that can be traced back to the 1929 Women’s Air Derby, in which Amelia Earhart and 19 other female pilots raced from California to Cleveland.  This year marked the 41st Air Race Classic, featuring 118 women pilots of all ages and all backgrounds, including the Flying Flashes from Kent State’s College of Applied Engineering, Sustainability and Technology. Six faculty members from Kent State University’s School of Art have been awarded Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Awards for 2017. The winners are Peter Christian Johnson (Ceramics), Gianna Commito (Painting), Janice Lessman-Moss (Textiles), Lori Kella (Photography), Andrea Myers (Sculpture, Kent State University at Stark) and Paul O'Keeffe (Sculpture, Professor Emeritus).
