FAQ on Course and Program Transfer

I only have my unofficial transcript from Notre Dame. Can I still be admitted to Kent State and have my coursework count toward a degree?

You can submit your unofficial Notre Dame transcript in your application materials and for a Kent State advisor to evaluate for course transfer and program applicability. However, Kent State must have your official transcript on file in order to process transfer credits to count toward program requirements and overall credit hours for a degree at Kent State. Visit the Transcript Ordering Center on the National Student Clearinghouse site to have your transcript sent to Kent State.

Will my credits from Notre Dame College be accepted by Kent State University?

Yes, Kent State University will accept all non-remedial courses from Notre Dame College at the undergraduate and graduate levels for college credit. Kent State will determine the applicability of these credits to specific program requirements upon admission.

Do I need to send my Notre Dame College transcript to Kent State University for evaluation? If so, how do I do this?

Student transcripts can be sent to Kent State via the National Student Clearinghouse. Please see Notre Dame College’s Student Q&A for more information on how to request your transcript. Kent State will provide an expedited review of transcripts for credit evaluation.

Will Kent State accept military credit?

Kent State University is a Military Friendly institution and awards college credit for basic military training, military courses and military occupations. All eligible credits must be recognized by the American Council on Education (ACE), which recommends appropriate credit hours to be awarded. We honor all ACE credit recommendations and also honor the State of Ohio Military Transfer Assurance Guide (MTAG) equivalencies as well. Kent State also accepts DANTES Standardized Subject Test (DSST), Defense Language Proficiency Tests (DLPT) and more.

Does Kent State accept AP. CLEP, IB or A-Level credit?

Kent State awards AP, CLEP, IB and A-Level credit when your test scores are sent directly to the university.

How do I get credit for my College Credit Plus (CCP) courses?

Did you take college-level courses while you were still in high achool? If so, those courses will be reported on a college transcript that is separate from your high school transcript, even if they are listed as part of your high school academics. If you are applying as an undergraduate student and you took CCP coursework somewhere other than Kent State, you will need to have official transcripts from that college or university forwarded directly to the Office of Admissions at the Kent State University.

Will my Notre Dame College GPA transfer to Kent State University?

No. Only grades earned in Kent State courses will count in the Kent State GPA for graduation and displayed on the Kent State student transcript.

Does Kent State offer my program?

Kent State offers 26 associate degree programs, 144 bachelor’s degree programs and 112 master’s degree programs, in addition to 188 undergraduate minors and 80 undergraduate and graduate certificates (see full list). Kent State offers comparable programs for all of Notre Dame programs, see the crosswalk tables. It is important for you to consult with the academic advisor listed next to the program to develop a pathway from your Notre Dame program to the Kent State program.

I am in a teacher licensure program at Notre Dame. How will Kent State University help me complete student teaching and finish that degree?

Kent State University will make every effort to support students in programs leading to licensure or certification. This includes ensuring eligibility for an equal or comparable license or certification, whenever possible. Contact advisor Kathy Zarges at kmzarges@kent.edu to discuss your options.

Can I graduate from Kent State University in the same time that it would have taken me to graduate from Notre Dame College?

Kent State University will develop degree plans for Notre Dame College students, ensuring they can progress through their program of study and providing a similar timeline to graduation, to the greatest extent possible.

I need to complete only a couple more courses for my degree. Will Kent State help me do that?

Yes, Kent State will make every effort to ensure you are on track for your degree. The university is working closely with its (and Notre Dame’s) accreditor, Higher Learning Commission, to make allowances for specific degree requirements where warranted.

When I graduate, will I receive a Notre Dame College diploma or a Kent State University diploma?

You will receive a Kent State University diploma.
