How University Communications and Marketing Can Help Tell Your Story

University Communications and Marketing (UCM) is responsible for disseminating all official Kent State news and handling the university’s media relations.

We invite faculty and staff to take advantage of our communications expertise. Consider UCM professionals as in-house consultants serving the university's internal and external communication needs. We can help identify audiences, determine the best way to get the word out and target the most appropriate media vehicles for your news.

Our staff members know the media well, and journalists rely heavily upon us for timely and relevant information. We are here to make media connections for you, whether that involves setting up a meeting for top administrators with editorial boards, targeting key publications for a news release or calling a reporter to pass along a story suggestion.

We also offer media training to help faculty and staff learn to respond to media inquiries and tell their stories most effectively. We provide instruction in developing and communicating messages and handling television and newspaper interviews.

Getting the word out about Kent State

Share your story ideas – We are looking for compelling research, high-profile public service, interesting events and simply good stories. We can help turn the best ideas into news pitches for external media or into features for Kent State Magazine or Kent State Today.

Use your expertise – We continually monitor current trends and breaking news, ranging from weather conditions to government actions to health research, and offer news experts and story pitches to media as another way to position the excellence of Kent State faculty and staff. We welcome your suggestions for topics and experts.

Get out an informed opinion – Faculty members and university administrators make excellent commentators on current issues and provide a great opportunity to raise the visibility of the university and their department.
