2022 Kulas Visiting Artist

In 2022, we're delighted to welcome the McGill/McHale Trio as the Kulas Visiting Artists performing on July 13, 2022. Check out their bio below.

The McGill/McHale Trio was founded in September 2014 when clarinetist Anthony McGill and his brother, flutist Demarre McGill, were featured artists in a residency at Bowling Green University in Ohio. While there, pianist Michael McHale joined them in concert for the first time and it was immediately clear that the Trio would have a great future making music together.

The McGill/McHale Trio's New York recital début took place on April 25, 2016 at The Greene Space, a concert that was broadcast live on WQXR radio. Later that same year they made their first recording, "Portraits," with Cedille Records collaborating with Oscar-winning actor Mahershala Ali. This recording received rave reviews and immediately entered the Top 25 US Billboard Classical Chart.

Since their first performance nearly a decade ago, the McGill/McHale Trio has won critical acclaim for concerts in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC, to name a few. Their programs span more than three centuries and include transcriptions of standard repertoire as well as premieres of new works.
