Spring 2021 EHHS School and Program Updates

As we near the end of what is quite possibly one of the busiest semesters in the College of EHHS, explore the exciting updates that each school has been tirelessly working on, and stay up to date on all things EHHS as we bring another semester to a close.

School of Health Sciences

  • Exercise Science is offering a new concentration in Strength and Conditioning.
  • Integrated Health Studies welcomes new program coordinator Dr. Laurie Wagner.
  • Integrated Health Studies is excited to announce a new concentration in Health Care Administration Systems.
  • The newly revitalized Rho Chapter of the health education professional honorary Eta Sigma Gamma won the ESG Chapter Recognition Award.
  • The School of Health Sciences collaborated with the School of Foundations, Leadership & Administration to cultivate the new eSports minor for Fall 2021. One class in development will focus on exercise and how fitness can improve eSports performance. The minor will be housed in the Sport Administration program.

School of Foundations, Leadership & Administration

  • The Hospitality and Tourism Management master's degree is now 100% online with support from the Office of Continuing and Distance Education, which is working with EHHS faculty to create new curriculum.
  • The undergraduate Hospitality Management program changed its name to Hospitality and Event Management. Students will have the option to choose two of three new concentrations. Read more about these exciting updates.
  • The Sport Administration program will launch a new eSports minor in Fall 2021. This was a collaborative development with programs across the campus, to be housed in SPAD.
  • Cultural Foundations was recently approved as an 100% online M.Ed. degree.
  • The Evaluation and Measurement program is approved for a name change to Research, Measurement & Statistics starting the 2021-2022 academic year.
  • The Recreation, Park and Tourism Management program is updating course content in RPTM 36082 Interpretation of Natural and Cultural Areas to facilitate students’ eligibility for certification through the National Association for Interpretation.

School of Teaching, Learning & Curriculum Studies

  • The TLC Anti-Racist Task Force, established this academic year, has developed an Anti-Racism and Anti-Bias Statement, published a monthly newsletter with faculty resources, held Critical Conversations, and established an action plan for the next year. 
  • Educational Technology program area had a very successful external review in March 2021.
  • The Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology (SEPP) minor has launched and the development of the SEPP major as a 100% online program is underway.
  • Recent hire Dr. Francisco Torres will further develop the social justice agenda; we welcome him as he begins next academic year.

School of Lifespan Development & Educational Sciences

  • Human Development & Family Studies undergraduate program is launching a new International Family Science minor for Fall 2021. Students will study the field of family science as it exists in the United States, then will take two courses abroad in Florence, Italy where they will gain deeper cultural competence. This minor is available for students across all disciplines and the next trip to Florence is planned for Summer 2022.
  • Dr. Kizzy Albritton of the School Psychology program received the EHHS Distinguished Researcher Award and shared information about her research during the EHHS Research Gallery in April.
  • Two Clinical Mental Health Counseling students are co-facilitating the new Mindful Mentality initiative with the KSU Student Multicultural Center to create group counseling sessions for students of color on campus. 
  • Senior American Sign Language/English Interpreting students interpreted for the 46th Annual Cleveland Symposium which was a collaboration with Case Western Reserve University and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
  • Long-Term Care Administration program has a new program video.
  • CES doctoral student Laura Dunson was appointed as the Graduate Student Representative for North Central Association for Counselor Education & Supervision for the 2021-2022 AY. Laura is also the recipient of the CES 2021 Judy DeTrude Award for her outstanding service to our counseling program and to the profession as a whole.
