Biography

Christopher Toddy holds a bachelor degree in architecture from the University of Notre Dame du Lac and a master degree in architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with honors in design theory and philosophy from the Charles Moore FAIA Program.  These studies included a year in Rome and a summer in Guanajuato, Mexico, which included a Gund Foundation grant to study the unique urban planning of Guanajuato.  Christopher holds certificates in Urban Development and Finance from Cleveland State University and Project Management from Baldwin-Wallace University.

Christopher brings 35 years of entrepreneurship and practical experience to his CAED courses as an adjunct professor.  Christopher is president of Christopher @ Architects LLC with offices in Cleveland, Ohio, and previously South Bend, Indiana.  C@A is a regional, award-winning, full-service architectural firm specializing in orthopedic clinics, auto dealerships, senior living, and custom residences, since 1999.  Christopher is president of Chrysalis Environmental Development LLC with offices in Cleveland, Ohio, and previously Ann Arbor, Michigan.  CED is a Michigan-and-Ohio-brownfields re-development company specializing in public-private site clean-up planning and the rebirth of main street America, since 2000.  Christopher is president of Chrysalis Architects LLC with offices in Cleveland, Ohio and Raleigh, North Carolina focused on sustainable design.  C/A works with property owners, consults with other architectural firms, and develops its own projects.  Christopher is president of Chrysalis Education LLC which produces educational material for lectures and publication with a focus on architecture, cultural-history, building engineering, sustainability, circle-economies, human ecosystems, and integration.  

Christopher was the 2019 National AIA chair of the Small Firm Exchange Committee (representing the interests of 77% of US architectural firms), the 2019 president of AIA Cleveland, and the vice-chair of the Cleveland 2030 District, a local sustainability group.  As education director of the USGBC Cleveland board, more than half nationally trained in LEED 4.1 were from northeast Ohio.  Christopher has been a national speaker at AIA conferences.  Christopher was a junior partner with architect Richard Fleishman FAIA, a leading designer, before starting his own companies.  Christopher is committed to creating communities and sustainability through his built-form, and teaching the next generation of quality architects.
