Blaine McCurdy joined Kent State’s Rising Scholars program in sixth grade after learning about the program and its opportunities for a college education in Columbiana County where he lives. Blaine, who is a first-generation college student, is now in his junior year at Kent State University at Salem studying psychology. This year, the Kent State University Foundation will give $1,000 to one of the university’s key student support funds in celebration of Kent State’s 113th birthday. From April 24-May 19, students will have the chance to vote for one of four funds, including the CARES Center Fund, the Flashes Fighting Hunger Support Fund, the Kent State Emergency Grant Fund and the Last Dollar Book Scholarship.
