Kent State University at Ashtabula received a new $5,000 respiratory therapy equipment grant from Hill-Rom, a manufacturer for medical devices, that will provide students with a new learning opportunity. Kent State Lecturer Ellen Daniels is contributing to a national effort to boost the monarch butterfly population.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), the number of monarch butterflies has decreased significantly over the last 20 years. A nationwide effort is underway to help the species through many programs from large-scale partnerships to individuals doing their part at home. According to the USFWS, citizen scientists are providing significant contributions to monarch-focused research and growth. Kent State University's College of Podiatric Medicine is teaming up with the Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic to help reach a segment of the population that may not otherwise receive care for wounds that fail to heal. On Oct. 24, Kent State started enrolling patients in a clinical trial at the new Wound Care and Research Clinic inside the Cleveland Foot and Ankle Clinic in downtown Cleveland.
