Alumni Association

The Kent State University Alumni Association has announced the recipients of the 2015 Alumni Awards. These awards recognize and honor alumni who, through leadership, character and hard work, have made exceptional contributions in their chosen field, in their communities and at Kent State University.

The following alumni have been selected for these awards:

Larry Disbro, ’71, ’73; Master of Education, ’78 and Sandy Disbro, ’75; Kent State Advocacy Award. The Disbros reside in Mentor. Larry is a former educational administrator and Sandy a teacher.

Photo of TV2Mark Nolan is returning to local television. The Kent State alum graduated in 1991 after serving as the weather director for TV-2.

In 1994 Nolan joined WKYC as a part-time weather forecaster. He later became the chief meteorologist for eight years before switching to morning news and then to radio in 2011.

Each year, the School of Communication Studies recognizes outstanding individuals who contribute to the field of communication and demonstrate success in their chosen career fields. The Alumni Awards & Reception originated with the university's centennial in 2010. Through a nomination process, individuals are selected for the following award categories:

Kent State University’s 2015 Homecoming Scheduled for Oct. 3

Kent State University held its annual Veterans Day observance on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. on the StudentGreen at Risman Plaza. The outdoor program, called Honoring All Who Serve, included a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the Army and Air Force ROTC programs, and remarks from Kent State President Beverly Warren. Chief Petty Officer Timothy S. Flannery was the guest speaker for this event.
