Kent State University is honoring our nation’s service members by hosting a military-exclusive hospitality chalet for veterans, service members and their families during the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron on Aug. 1-5.

 

For the ninth consecutive year, Kent State University has earned the 2018 Military Friendly® School designation for its Kent Campus. Military Friendly is the military ratings division of Victory Media, a service-disabled, veteran-owned business that also publishes G.I. Jobs®, STEM Jobs, Military Spouse and Vetrepreneur®. Military Friendly rates companies and colleges on their programs to recruit and retain military veterans as employees and students.

Kent State University will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Thursday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Kent Student Center Kiva.

The 23rd annual National Depression Screening Day at Kent State University will be held Thursday, Oct. 5, at several Kent State locations. Events are open to all students, faculty and staff, as well as the larger community.

A Kent State University tradition for 36 years, the annual Black Squirrel Festival will take place Friday, Sept. 8, from noon-5 p.m. on the Student Green and Risman Plaza. The Black Squirrel Festival, which is hosted by Kent Student Center Programming, attracts more than 3,000 students, faculty and staff, as well as members of the Kent community.

Kent State University students will celebrate the start of a new school year at the university’s annual back-to-school celebration that occurs the day before fall classes begin. Blastoff will take place on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 6-9:30 p.m. on the Student Green and Manchester Field on the Kent Campus.

Blastoff serves as the culminating event of Welcome Weekend, a four-day orientation program that helps new students transition into the university environment.

A group of Kent State architecture students formed “KSU Barkitecture” to design and build environments for pets living in shelters.

Kent State University’s 23rd annual FlashFest will host rap duo Rae Sremmurd and pop artist Sammy Adams on April 20.

Hosted by the Kent State’s Undergraduate Student Government, FlashFest will take place at two locations on the Kent Campus. The first part of the show will begin at 5 p.m. on the Student Green, and the lineup includes local band Chil Rock Band and Kent resident DJ Kyle Conley. This show will be free and open to the public, weather permitting.
