From the Dean's Desk

Inside this newsletter, I am very pleased to share with you the many ways in which the College of Podiatric Medicine lives out its mission every day- by putting our students first and striving to educate and provide opportunities that will lead them to a successful residency and career. It is in the hearts and minds of our graduates every Spring that we catch a glimpse of the future of our profession, and I am so proud of just how bright that future is.

In order to progress our mission and maintain KSUCPM’s ranking as the largest podiatry school in the country, it is necessary that we focus on innovation and growth within our facilities, curriculum, and in the opportunities that we offer our students. Over the course of the past year, I have worked with our student body to establish and develop what are now the College’s five capital campaign priorities. These priorities are what we as a community have identified as our top funding concerns.

Dean Allan Boike’s Five Capital Campaign Priorities

SMALL GROUP LEARNING LAB

300K

To provide our students with an immersive learning experience, through problem solving and small group-based interaction, which is consistent with 21st century medical pedagogy.

SCHOLARSHIPS

500K

Scholarships remain the most critical priority of the college. They provide our students with access and affordability, while lowering the burden of debt and allowing our aspiring physicians to focus on academics and training.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT CLERKSHIPS

300K

To provide our students with the opportunity of an elective global experience in Arezzo, Italy, and allow them to participate in an internationally recognized clerkship program, specializing in diabetes management.

SIMULATED PATIENT LAB REMODEL

190K

As obtaining patient-based clinical experiences throughout medicine, nursing, and other healthcare professions becomes increasingly difficult, the necessity for simulated training has become extremely important to the training of young physicians. KSUCPM is looking to upgrade our current space, becoming a state-of-the-art laboratory providing high-quality simulated patient based training.

MICROBIOLOGY RESEARCH LAB

80K

Expanding our role in research while creating new opportunities for our students and faculty to participate in cutting-edge and micro-biome research.

I hope that as you explore this issue, you feel inspired to connect with your CPM family, be it in attending our 2019 Alumni Reunion Weekend this August, one of our four renowned continuing education programs throughout the year, or in joining The DPM Mentors Network to shape the future of our profession. In attending CPM events, you can be fulfilled in knowing that each registration purchased will benefit one of our five established capital campaign priorities. Not only are you growing your personal connection with our great alma mater and alumni base, but you are simultaneously helping a student to reach the same dream that you are now living.

With these goals in mind, 2019 is a perfect year to visit the College. I hope to see many of you in the forthcoming warmer months. Wishing you and yours an enjoyable Spring season!
