    Biography

Michelle Bagwell is currently serving as the Coordinator for the Music Technology Program and holds the position of Associate Professor at Kent State Stark. She earned a Bachelor of Music Education, a Master of Music, and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Music Education from Kent State University, with a specialized focus on vocal performance, piano pedagogy, and musicology. Additionally, she possesses a Master of Education degree with a Principal Licensure from Indiana Wesleyan University and is in the final stages of pursuing an MBA degree, further enhancing her leadership and administrative skills in the field of education.

With many years of experience, Dr. Bagwell has worked as both a middle school and high school instrumental and choral music teacher, bringing her extensive knowledge and passion for music to the classroom. She is also an active guest conductor and speaker, frequently sharing her expertise at regional and national conferences. Her teaching approach encompasses a broad spectrum of settings, from traditional classroom environments to personalized one-on-one private lessons. She leads various ensembles, including Chorale, University Chorus, and Rock Ensembles, fostering a diverse musical environment that encourages student engagement and creativity.

Her research interests are multifaceted and include examining the neurological responses of musicians to music, investigating the incorporation of music into early elementary educational experiences, and analyzing retention and attrition rates within middle school and high school music ensembles. She is also passionate about musicology, as well as the history and pedagogy of vocal music, contributing valuable insights to the academic community and enhancing the educational experiences of her students.
