    Biography

Hannah Jencius, mezzo-soprano, holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in voice performance from Kent State University. Throughout her performance career she has been seen in operas, plays and musicals, as well as in rock bands, pop and jazz groups, and in celtic beltane festivals. Hannah believes that great technique supports all genres of singing, and her students have diverse performance careers that prove their technique with every breath they take.

Hannah’s students have placed in the second, third and top 10 rounds of the Shining Star CLE competition; have won multiple first, second, third and honorable mention prizes at the Ohio NATS competition and have gone on to the semifinals of the National NATS competition; have won first prize in the Classical Singer competition; have been selected to solo with the Cleveland Orchestra; and have received multiple job offers for cruise lines, National Broadway Tours, films and television.

Hannah also holds a special place in her studio for students with exceptionalities. Over the years she has worked with a significant number of students with autism, visual impairment, students who need communication support and more, and her teaching has adapted to meet the needs of each student. She is adept at providing research based tools and exercises that support student needs. Her classroom is one that is constantly adaptive, with instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.

Hannah has been selected twice as a Young Artist with Nightingale Opera Theatre and has been a featured soloist in area concerts with repertoire ranging from bluegrass to Beethoven. Her recent performances include at Porthouse Theatre as Fruma-Sarah in "Fiddler on the Roof" and as a mezzo soprano soloist with Studio Espressivo’s "Sunday Studio Series." She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, served on the Ohio NATS Board for two years and is currently the Ohio District Membership Director for 2024-26. Hannah currently teaches at Kent State University and the Akron Music Institute where she works with students of all ages in diverse vocal styles. She is a sought-after teacher for her focus on technique and artistry, and her students pursue performance in a wide range of musical genres.
