Student Spotlight - Laurel Praeter

We would like to take a moment to brag about senior mechatronics student Laurel Praeter.

Making the most of her time at Kent State’s College of Aeronautics and Engineering, she’s consistently looking for new experiences to grow her portfolio.

This semester, she is assisting Darwin Boyd, Ph.D. with his Industrial Robotics course. Last semester she attended the 2018 Automation Fair in Philadelphia, hosted by Rockwell Automation with Boyd and mechatronics students. In 2017, she participated in two tech competitions – SkyHack and the Fashion/Tech hackathon.

“Although my teams did not win any of the competitions I enjoyed the experience and ability to put my classroom knowledge and creativity to the test,” Praeter said.

The Mechatronics major recently completed a 16-week internship for General Motors in Lordstown, Ohio, after deciding her favorite classes were Strength of Materials and Programmable Logic Controllers. While she is still considering where she would like to work and live post-collegiately, she is certain she’d like to reserve time to volunteer as a missionary.

As she finishes out her senior year, she says Assistant Dean Jackie Ruller, Professor Michael Fisch, Ph.D. and Boyd have stood out for their eagerness to help her along the way.
