Real ID deadline extended to May 3, 2023

If you're planning on air travel anytime soon, be sure you have your REAL ID!

Beginning May 3, 2023, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license, state-issued enhanced driver’s license, or another acceptable form of ID to fly within the United States.  A US Passport or military ID is also a permissible form of identification for air travel as well.

For Ohioans, the requirements for standard licenses remain unchanged. You’ll need proof of your full legal name, date of birth, legal presence in the United States, social security number, and Ohio street address.

However, if you’re upgrading to a Real ID for travel purposes, you’ll need that verification as well as a second proof of a Ohio street address.  Any postal mail tender will suffice, including a bank statement, income tax return filing, insurance policy, credit card statement, paycheck stub, utility bill, or any of other BMV-approved document.

REAL ID-compliant cards are marked with a star at the top of the card.  More information can be found on the Department of Homeland Security's REAL ID website.
