Current job: Applied Research Assistant

Graduate student Kit Higgason found the fully online Master of Library and Information Science degree in Kent State's School of Information the ideal way to pursue her graduate education. As a military spouse, her residence could change in an instant, a new city, a new state, even a new country, but the iSchool's flexibility means no she doesn't need to put her studies on hold. 

Through the course of her studies, Higgason found her interests pulled most strongly in one direction. "After having the opportunities to work with different faculty, work on assignments, and work on my research career, my career outlook has become more focused on research and public libraries."

This focus led Higgason to co-author and publish the article "#BookTokMadeMeReadIt: young adult reading communities across an international, sociotechnical landscape" in the journal Information and Learning Sciences along with professors Marianne Martens and Gitte Balling.

“I love that I am making a difference," Higgason said. "And I learned that it is okay to ask for help, and it really does help you learn and do better. Learning to ask for help/clarification has helped me in my professional and personal life, and that is because I was given safety to do so during my program.
