Sally Kandel Announces Retirement
Sally A. Kandel, Ph.D., Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Administration and Operations, has announced her intention to retire effective November 30, 2014.
"Having earned three degrees, two certificates, and a lifetime of positive and challenging experiences and accomplishments at Kent State, I feel very fortunate to have had my administrative career in such a dynamic place. It hardly seems possible that 'decades' have passed since I started as an undergraduate student. While this decision was prompted by changes to OPERS health care policies, it is the right decision and right time for me. I look forward to spending more time with my family and friends, traveling around the globe, and pursuing new interests. All of my direct reports are extremely competent and effective in their roles, and I have no worries about their ability to keep the operational side of Academic Affairs running smoothly. Working with such a great group of people made this decision very difficult," said Kandel.
Sally began her administrative career at Kent State in 1988, serving as the Coordinator for the Human Resources Wellness Center. Since that time, she has been Director of Human Resource Development, Associate Vice President for Human Resources, and Associate Vice President for Research, Planning and Institutional Effectiveness. Kandel was asked to come to Academic Affairs in 2009 and was appointed Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Administration and Operations.
Please join me in thanking Sally for her contributions to Kent State University and wishing her well on her upcoming retirement. Sally has been an asset to Academic Affairs and will be missed. A search for a replacement will begin immediately.
