Transitioning to Kent

We’re excited that you have decided to continue your education at Kent State University by transitioning to the Kent Campus to complete your degree!  This guide will help you walk through your next steps to have the smoothest transition possible.  Please note that no additional application is required to transition to the Kent Campus as a regional campus student.

1.    Meet with an academic advisor at Kent State Trumbull.  Meeting with a Trumbull advisor will assure that you meet the requirements to transition to the Kent Campus.  These requirements are:
a.    Successful completion of all developmental coursework
b.    Successful completion of 12 credit hours of college-level coursework
c.    A minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA
2.    Once your Trumbull advisor confirms that you have met the minimum transition requirements, you should meet with an advisor in your specific college at the Kent Campus to review classes for the upcoming semester.
a.    The best way to schedule an advising appointment is through KSUAdvising, which can be accessed at this link: https://advising.kent.edu/login
b.    If you’re unsure of which college your major is in, please do not hesitate to ask your Trumbull advisor.
3.    Schedule a campus tour.
a.    The Kent Campus is much larger than Trumbull and scheduling a tour is a great way to feel at ease while making the transition to a larger campus.
i.    You can schedule your Kent Campus tour by clicking here.
ii.    On the tour, you can also learn about the many resources that are available to you at the Kent Campus.  For a brief overview of Kent Campus resources, refer to the last page of this document.
4.    Determine if you need to live in the residence halls.
a.    Kent State University Housing policy states that all students enrolled for nine or more credit hours at the Kent Campus must live in university housing until they meet one of the following conditions:
i.    Have attempted 60 credit hours (junior standing) prior to the start of the academic year
ii.    Are 20 years of age prior to the start of the academic year
iii.    Have lived in university housing for four semesters
iv.    Will live and travel to class from the primary residence of their parent or legal guardian residing within 50 miles of the University
v.    Have been granted an exemption from the Department of Residence Services
b.    If you plan to commute from home, you must submit a Mandatory Housing Exemption Application at this link: https://www.kent.edu/housing/mandatory-housing-policy-exemption-forms&n…;

5.    Purchase a parking permit.
a.    Students who bring cars to campus or who are commuters must purchase a parking permit.  Parking permits are available for purchase online only.  Review parking options and details of the purchase at www.kent.edu/parking.
