Kent State Youth Orchestra
Inspiring the Next Generation of String Musicians
The Kent State Youth Orchestra (KSYO) is a program of the Kent State University Hugh A. Glauser School of Music created to serve the vibrant string community of Northeast Ohio. Designed for talented middle and high school musicians, the KSYO provides a supportive and inspiring environment where students can grow as performers, collaborators and young artists.
Focused on violin, viola, cello and double bass, the orchestra offers students the opportunity to experience high-level orchestral training while connecting with peers who share a passion for music. The program is ideal for students looking to enrich their school music experience, as well as home-schooled students or those without access to a large string program.
The KSYO is built on a welcoming and inclusive philosophy. Auditions are used primarily for ensemble placement and all dedicated string players are encouraged to participate.
As an official Kent State University ensemble, the KSYO connects young musicians with the artistic and educational resources of the university. Students work closely with Kent State faculty, collaborate with university ensembles, and become part of a vibrant musical community.
