At Kent State, the M.S. in Accounting degree is designed for those interested in pursuing higher-level accounting positions in a variety of fields, including taxation, banking, insurance, or the general business sector via a financial division. Kayla Nagle, an M.S. in Accounting student, is working toward her own career goals, and spent some time talking about her time at Kent State. Read on to learn all about her experiences!
1. What made you pursue a graduate degree?
Earning my MSA has always been a personal goal. I believe it will help me build on the knowledge I gained during my undergraduate studies in accounting and better prepare me for the CPA exam.
2. What inspired you to choose Kent State for continuing your education?
I chose Kent State University for two reasons: the faculty and the strength of the program itself. I loved the education I received during my undergraduate studies here at Kent, and a big part of that was due to support from the faculty. I also had the opportunity to take a few graduate courses while completing my undergraduate degree, so continuing with the MSA program at Kent felt like a natural next step.
3. How has this program provided flexibility in your schedule?
I am able to take on other projects that would not have normally fit into a regular school schedule due to the flexibility of the program. I can work on my classes at a time that works best for me, which helps me be the best student I can be!
4. Is there a memorable moment or achievement you have had while studying at Kent State?
During my junior year at Kent State, I was honored with the Beta Gamma Sigma “Junior of the Year” award. I was not expecting it, and I felt truly proud to have my hard work acknowledged. One of the accounting professors took my picture while on stage, so I am able to look back on that special night.
5. How has Kent State supported your academic and personal growth?
As a first-generation college student, I faced many challenges I was not fully prepared for when beginning my studies.
One of the most supportive teachers I have ever had was Professor Serena Loftus, who encouraged me to seek out opportunities, helped me improve my résumé, and generously offered her time and guidance to any student in need. Her support was instrumental in my career development and gave me the confidence to put myself out there. The accounting department is filled with supportive, encouraging faculty members who want the best for their students, and it shows.
6. How do you see this program impacting your future career and earning potential?
I believe this program will open up valuable opportunities for my future. The technical knowledge I gain will not only prepare me for the CPA exam but will also help me advance more quickly into higher-level roles within the accounting field.
