Why did you pursue podiatric medicine?
My mother is a pharmacist and was my main inspiration to pursue medicine. Her own experiences with a podiatrist for her diabetes showed me how important and fulfilling podiatric medicine is!
Why did you choose KSUCPM?
I loved the campus and how welcoming the staff here was during my interview.
What is your favorite aspect of Kent State now that you are a student here?
The group tutoring sessions are extremely helpful for classes.
What advice do you have for anyone considering podiatric medical school?
Go shadow different podiatrist and see all the different things they can do. The field is wider than you might think!
Have you begun to prepare Boards yet? If so, what are you doing in terms of preparation?
Yes, right now I’m mostly reviewing old notes for lower anatomy as it’s the biggest section of the exam. I’m also a gross anatomy tutor, which is great for reviewing material before boards.
How do you strike a balance between class work, studying, and social activities?
Having a set schedule and being organized is definitely important! I use an online planner to keep track of important events. I try to add a couple hours of free time into my daily schedule when possible to de-stress and avoid burnout.
Any suggestions for prospective students on building/ maintaining a balance?
Give yourself some time to relax every day, at least one hour. Don’t keep yourself from enjoying activities with others to study all the time. Taking breaks leads to more productive studying!
What one word describes you best?
Caring
What are some activities you are involved in at KSUCPM?
Student ambassador, tutor, Director of Social Affairs for PAD club, Director of Community Affairs for ACFAP club, ACFAS member
As a first-year student, what are some of the challenges you faced (if any) while transitioning into medical school?
It was difficult to get into the groove of how I study best, I needed to change my study habits to reflect the extra material presented in every class. It was also hard navigating a new area and all of the changed protocols at school due to the COVID pandemic. However, I was able to navigate those challenges with the help of my classmates!
What one word describes KSUCPM?
Supportive
What advice would you offer to any prospective students wishing to attend KSUCPM who are in the current application process?
Come tour our campus, it’s a great way to experience everything the school offers!
Most challenging course and why?
Pharmacology involves a lot of extra study time because of all the memorization. It’s definitely a class that you shouldn’t cram for!
