Why did you pursue podiatric medicine?
I know I definitely wanted to do surgery and I learned that in podiatry you can pretty much do everything from dermatology, sports medicine, wound care to surgery. There’s such a vast array of what podiatrist can do!
Why did you choose Kent State?
The moment I stepped on campus for my interview it was like I was home and I was meant to be there, everyone both students and faculty were so warm and welcoming, I thought “this place is it!”
Favorite aspect of Kent State now that you are a student here?
Meeting people from all walks of life.
What advice do you have for anyone considering podiatry school?
I would say to anyone and with any profession, make sure you do your research first and figure out if this is what you want to do, because you are putting so much time and money into this career choice, if your heart mind and spirit is not 100% in it, you won’t succeed.
Have you begun to prepare Boards yet? If so, what are you doing in terms of preparation? Any advice?
I have not begun to prepare for boards yet, just trying to finish the first semester first. But I would say go over material constantly even though exams for that material is over, because you want that information to stick in your long term memory, so when it does come time to study for boards it won’t be like you are learning new information.
How do you strike a balance between class work, studying, and social activities?
Having a schedule is of the utmost importance. Make sure you also schedule breaks in between studying because one can get burnt out really fast. On weekends you should always enjoy a meal with your friends because socializing is what keeps you sane, and talking with people that are in the same boat as you is very reassuring. Just remember you are not in this alone!
Any suggestions for prospective students on building/ maintaining a balance?
Yes, do your best to make a schedule and stick with it. It’s definitely important to go out and take a break from your desk from watching lectures all day, your brain needs a break. Just remember everyone is different so make a schedule that is best for you.
What one word describes you best?
Charismatic
What are some activities you are involved in at KSUCPM?
Well right now it is very tough with the pandemic going on because everything is pretty much canceled, but I am a part of ACFAS and looking forward to when things go back to normal to be involved in a lot more. I am also a student ambassador and I’m really looking forward to meeting answering any questions from prospective students
As a first-year student, what are some of the challenges you faced (if any) while transitioning into medical school?
I would say it’s a whole different ball game than undergrad. You really have to change the way you study here because there is so much information. The first exam cycle was definitely an eye opener and I consider it beta testing stage to see which methods worked for me and which ones did not. So I’m changing up a few things and I feel confident going into the next exam cycle.
What one word describes KSUCPM?
Family
What advice would you offer to any prospective students wishing to attend KSUCPM who are in the current application process?
I would say look at your options and what you want, but KSUCPM is where it’s at! Its located in a beautiful area, the weather is great and the people here are amazing and always helpful because they want you to succeed
Most challenging course and why?
I would say anatomy, not because the material is hard, but because there’s just so much material, its true what they say, it’s like drinking out of a firehose!
