From the Dean's Desk

It is hard to believe that 2018 is coming to a close, and the season of thanks and giving is upon us once again. This fall, as I reflect on the prosperous year that Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine (KSUCPM) has had, I am emboldened to use this momentum to enter a new calendar year focused on the goal of providing our students and alumni further opportunities to engage and grow together as one community.

August, 2018 saw one of my proudest memories of the year, as we welcomed over 300 DPM’s to the college for the Inaugural North Coast Foot & Ankle Symposium. For many CPM alumni, this was their first time reuniting with their alma mater, visiting our Independence campus and becoming reacquainted with a transformed Cleveland. I was overjoyed to see our alumni return to celebrate during the annual Alumni Reunion Weekend events that highlighted the weekend. I would like to personally thank each of you that attended these functions. Proceeds from both the North Coast Foot & Ankle Symposium, as well as the Alumni Reunion Weekend resulted in a substantial contribution to our OPMSA Outstanding Podiatric Medical Student Endowed Scholarship Fund. Thank you!

With a successful summer behind us, and the season of giving approaching, I offer you a new opportunity to give back to our profession through a contribution to the Gerard V. Yu, DPM Endowed Education Fund. This fund was created to honor Dr. Yu’s work in podiatric surgery and provide students with exposure to new opportunities within our profession- allowing the enhancement of their educational experience prior to entering the field. This year, the Gerard V. Yu, DPM Endowed Education Fund will be a part of the University’s Giving Tuesday Campaign. During this campaign, I am excited to announce that the first $1,000 gifted to this fund will be generously matched by Eugene Pascarella, DPM,   Class of 1982, and Michael King, DPM, Class of 1983. Thank you, in advance, to Dr. Pascarella, Dr. King and our generous alumni!

As consistent with our bi-annual newsletter, in the pages that follow, you will be acquainted with the recent victories of our award-winning students and faculty, as well as celebrate the good deeds and achievements of our great alumni.

Thank you, as always, for staying connected! Sending you warmth and joy this season, and for the rest of your 2018!
