KSUCPM Advisory Board Member Honored with Emeritus Status

 

The Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine (KSUCPM) Advisory Board serves to provide leadership in the growth and development of the college, to raise, and recommend disbursement of funds for the benefit of the college and to perform any and all other functions necessary to accomplish said purpose. In November of 2018, Edward J. Fiffick, DPM, was honored with Emeritus Status and continues to serve in this capacity. Emeritus Status is given to members of the board who have completed outstanding, loyal, and faithful service, and whom are appointed at the recommendation of the board and the campus dean. As an Emeritus member, Dr. Fiffick can be available for consultation and advice, and may attend all meetings of the board, but shall not be entitled to vote.

Dr. Edward J. “Bud” Fiffick is a 1959 graduate of the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He served in the United States Air Force Reserve, the United States Army Reserve, and retired from the United States Army Reserve as First Lieutenant, Medical Services Corp. Dr. Fiffick held the position of Chief of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery for sixteen years at the Western Reserve Care System and Tod Babies and Children’s Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio. He served as Treasurer of the Boardman Rotary, and served as Chairman of the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the United Way. In addition to his podiatric career and service in the community, he was invited to officiate for the National Football League (NFL) in 1979. He spent twenty years on the field and one year in the replay booth with the NFL. Dr. Fiffick was awarded the Doctor of Humane Letters from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine in 2007. He became a life member of the OCPM Alumni Association and served as President from 1971 to 1973. Dr. Fiffick was inducted into the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Hall of Fame Society in 2013. He was truly humbled to receive this ultimate honor from his alma mater. He has been a tremendous supporter of the college and made a philanthropic contribution of $100,000 to OCPM to name the “Edward J. Fiffick, DPM and Family Anatomy Lab” in 2007. Dr. Fiffick’s years of service on the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine Board of Trustees and the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine Advisory Board totals close to 50 years! He continues to be a dedicated supporter of the college and believes KSUCPM offers students the best educational program and finest facilities in the country.
