Hometown: Spokane, Washington

Undergrad Institution: Whitworth University

Class of 2025

Why did you pursue podiatric medicine?
I chose to pursue podiatric medicine because I wanted to care for people in a healthcare capacity while being able to practice in a specialized field of medicine.

Why did you choose Kent State?
I chose KSUCPM for many reasons, but mostly for the friendly atmosphere that I felt during my interview.

Favorite aspect of Kent State now that you are a student here?
My favorite aspect of KSUCPM is that there are a ton of academic resources that are available to me, especially the group tutoring sessions that are led by the 2nd years.

What advice do you have for anyone considering podiatry school?
My advice would be to shadow a podiatrist to get an in-depth look into the profession. Also, try to see some surgical procedures as that can be a significant aspect of the profession.

How do you strike a balance between class work, studying, and social activities?
Finding a balance between academics, exercise, sleep, self-care, and a social life is difficult but not impossible. You have to know yourself and set expectations and academic goals that you can realistically achieve while still keeping a healthy lifestyle. I try to plan out my day as much as I can so that I am more efficient with my time.

What are some activities you are involved in at KSUCPM?
I am a student ambassador for KSUCPM, a member of American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, and I am also in the soccer club.

As a first-year student, what are some of the challenges you faced (if any) while transitioning into medical school?
As a first-year year student taking the classes here, I definitely felt like I was “drinking from a fire hose.” But you eventually get used to it and it just becomes another one of those things.

What one word describes KSUCPM?
Collaborative

What advice would you offer to any prospective students wishing to attend KSUCPM who are in the current application process?
Do your best to build and sustain a routine where you are succeeding in the academic goals that you have set for yourself but also realize that your physical and mental health is just as important and needs to maintained if you are going to make it through this journey.

Most challenging course and why?
Anatomy is a monster because there is both a lab and a lecture component that you have to stay on top of.
