Fall semester is coming to an end

As we bring the fall semester to a close, I hope you and your family are doing well, staying safe, and enjoying one another.

If you have not had an opportunity to read about some of our exciting accomplishments over the last year, I would like to share a few. We launched our Prison Education Program at Trumbull Correctional Institution, a Community/Police Academy Partnership, and a Police Academy DEI Initiative. Our solar panel installation is now complete.  In conjunction with the College of Public Health at Kent State University, the campus also recently received a major grant to support the education of community healthcare workers in the Mahoning Valley.

Looking ahead to 2022, we continue to examine strategic moves that will benefit our campus and community, financially and environmentally. We have more in the works that will soon be announced.

As this semester nears its close, so too does my time in my administrative role at the campus. In January, I will complete my term as interim dean.  Even considering the challenges presented during COVID-19, I have enjoyed every moment spent here at Kent State Trumbull. I would be hard-pressed to find a more dedicated and close-knit campus community. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to our students and celebrate their success as they graduate and become assets to our community.

I have spent more than 20 years at this campus, including eight as assistant dean, and it has very much become a home to me. Indeed, even as I step down from the role of Interim Dean, I will not be leaving the campus, but once again assuming the teaching position that brought me to this campus so many years ago. I am very much looking forward to the opportunity to return to the classroom. As I prepare for this next stage in my career, I want to take this opportunity to thank our current and former students, our staff and faculty, and all of the community partners we have gained along the way. Trumbull is a fantastic community and one that will remain dear to me even as I continue to be involved at the campus in a different role. Thank you, all. I wish you all Happy Holidays and a Healthy and Prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Daniel E. Palmer, Ph.D.
Interim Dean and Chief Administrative Officer
Kent State University at Trumbull
