Welcome to Spring Semester

After digging out from the record snowstorm, this spring semester is underway. This week, I am beginning service as your new dean and chief administrative officer at Kent State University at Trumbull. I am proud to be part of the Kent State family, and I am excited by all I have seen and learned thus far. I am very optimistic and energized by the opportunities that we will have to work together in advancing the mission and goals of the university and, most importantly, in transforming lives in our communities. I know that we have an incredible group of students, faculty, staff, and community members who will share in our success.

Before moving on, I want to thank Daniel Palmer for his thoughtful leadership as interim dean during the past few years. He has navigated the campus forward through many obstacles, and his work is deeply appreciated.

Over my career I have spent time in central Pennsylvania, Indiana, and northwest and southwest Ohio. However, I am new to the Mahoning Valley, so I look forward to meeting you. Whether it is advice on adding new programs or recommending the best places to order pizza, I want to hear from you. I have a lot to learn and want to get input from everyone about what they consider the strengths and opportunities of the Trumbull campus. I will be hosting “drop-in hours” where folks can stop by, say hello, and share their ideas and concerns. The first “drop-in hour” will be today, Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2 – 3 pm in the Dean’s office. Other dates will be provided soon.

Finally, I know we are all tired of hearing about COVID-19 and all its variants. However, I am optimistic that we will have a productive and meaningful spring semester. I encourage you to continue to take care of one another and to practice patience and empathy with each other. Flashes Always Take Care of Flashes!

Do your best this semester, and please do not hesitate to reach out and ask for help. I wish you much success.

Stay safe and go Flashes!

Bill Ayres, Ph.D.
Dean and Chief Administrative Officer
Kent State University at Trumbull
