FlashLine is Kent State’s secure online portal and is the gateway to world-class intranet services, where you will register for classes, get your transfer credit evaluation, select your chosen name and much more.
Get Started
- To log in for the first time, go to welcome.kent.edu and click on "Start here" after "New user?"
- Enter your username. This is the first part of your email address (ex. "janedoe@kent.edu" is "janedoe"). Refer to your admission letter for your Kent State email address and your username.
- New students are given a temporary password when their account is created. Enter your temporary password.
- The format of the password is: mmmyyxxxxx where:
- mmm = first three letters of the birth month.
- yy = last two digits of the birth year.
- xxxxx = last five digits of the Kent State Identification Number (see admission letter).
- Once you have successfully logged in with this temporary password, you will be prompted to select a new password. You are also asked to provide an alternate email address and to answer challenge questions that you can use to reset your password in case it is forgotten.

Set up Your KSUview Account for Parent and Family Access
KSUview is an easy and safe way to share your student information such as financial aid, personal information (address, phone and email), registration (status and schedule) and your student account (detail, summary, tax notification and holds).
This could be helpful if your parent or family member will help you with financial aid or need information about account balances, which are other items you will address as part of this checklist.
If you would like to give your parent of family member access to your information, complete these steps:
- Log in to FlashLine and select "Student" in the left-hand column.
- Under "Student" select "Resources."
- Under "Resources" select "Requests and Authorizations."
- The webpage will be displayed; double click on KSUview.
- Choose "Add Designee" and fill in the fields for First Name, Last Name and Email Address for the person you’re giving access to; click "Add Designee."
- Click on "Expand" (designee name). In the Profile tab, complete the information requested for your designee. On the Authorization tab, select the items you’d like your designee to view online.

Pay your $150 enrollment fee
Here's How
To pay the enrollment fee online, log in to FlashLine and click on "My Lists" and the checkmark icon in the upper right-hand corner. Click on "Pay Enrollment Fee" and follow the payment instructions.
The enrollment fee is refundable until Jan. 18 for spring 2022 and May 1 for fall 2022. You can request a refund in writing to: Enrollment Fee Refund, Admissions Office, Kent State University, P.O. Box 5190, Kent, OH, 44242-0001. No refunds of the enrollment fee will be made after May 1.

You can apply to live in one of our 23 residence halls beginning Oct. 1 for spring 2022 and Feb. 1 for fall 2022.

Register for Destination Kent State New Student Orientation
You can register beginning Oct. 1 for spring 2022 and Feb. 1 for fall 2022. Destination Kent State is a required orientation program where you will meet with an advisor and schedule all your classes!

Submit your final high school transcripts and scores
This includes Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate scores and college transcripts for any college courses completed during high school.

Kent State email and Transfer Credit Evaluation review
Kent State Email Account
We will send important updates and next-step information via your Kent State email address. Be sure to check it regularly when you first get started and as you proceed through your academic career at Kent State! One of these important notifications will let you know that your Transfer Credit Evaluation has been completed.
Transfer Credit Evaluation
Early on you’ll receive an email notification in your kent.edu email notifying you that your Transfer Credit Evaluation is complete. The Transfer Credit Evaluation is a report of how your credits transferred from your previous school(s) and is provided to all transfer students. To access your report, log in to your FlashLine account and follow these steps:
- Click on the "Student" category on the left, then expand the "Resources" section. Next, click on "Advising and GPS."
- In the "Advising and GPS" section, click on "GPS Audit and Plan." A new window will open.
- On the left side of the page, under the "GPS Audits" tab, click on "What-If."
- Under the "What-If" blue bar, choose the following options in the corresponding drop-down boxes:
- Level: Undergraduate
- Degree: Transfer Articulation
- Catalog: Your catalog year
- Above the "What-If" blue bar, click the "Process What-If" button.
- Your transfer evaluation will open.
- If you have trouble accessing your FlashLine account, call 330-672-HELP for assistance.

- Post-undergraduate and non-degree students: Register for classes via the "Student" menu in FlashLine. Contact your academic advising office for advising and registration assistance.
- Guest students: Register for classes via the "Student" menu in FlashLine. Enrollment and course registration information for guest students can be found at www.kent.edu/guest. If you need additional assistance, please send an email message to guest@kent.edu.

If you had in-progress coursework or have completed additional classes since your initial transcript was submitted, forward your final transcripts to the Admissions Office.

Take care of day-to-day living needs! Housing, your Kent State ID and parking are key daily essentials. Tackle these in any order you choose - but be certain you check these items off of your must-do list.
Housing
- If you are looking to live on campus, submit your application on the residence services website. For information about off-campus housing, visit the Commuter and Off-Campus Student Organization (COSO) website.
Kent State ID, FLASHcard!
- See current instructions on how to upload your photo and where to pick up your FLASHcard.
- The FLASHcard is your Kent State University ID card and more. Your card will let you take materials out of the Kent State libraries, access services such as Student Recreation and Wellness Center and athletic events, and purchase goods and services both on and off campus. If you have a meal plan, you will use your FLASHcard to purchase meals in our dining halls.
Parking Permit
- To find out which parking permit is best for you, visit the parking services website.

Review your student’s admission letter
Notify the Admissions Office of any changes to your address, phone number or student’s intended major by calling 800-988-5368.

Log in to FlashLine
Your student will need to follow the instructions to log in to FlashLine for a new user as shared in the admissions acceptance letter.
Once logged in, your student can:
- Review a personalized, dynamic student checklist.
- Set up your parent/guardian KSUview account.
- Establish a chosen name.
KSUView
You must have a KSUview account if you would like to view your student’s financial aid, personal information, registration and student account information. Your student will need to set up your KSUview account for parent or family member access.
KSUview provides a safe and easy way for your student to identify you as a designee and grant you permission to view selected student information such as financial aid, personal information (address, phone and email), registration (status and schedule) and student account information (detail, summary, tax notification and holds). For a parent or family member to be added as a designee, the following steps must be completed by the student:
- Log in to FlashLine and select "Student" in the left-hand column.
- Under "Student," select "Resources."
- Under "Resources," select "Requests and Authorizations."
- The webpage will be displayed; double click on "KSUview."
- Choose "Add Designee" and fill in the fields for First Name, Last Name and Email Address for the person you’re giving access to; click "Add Designee."

There are important application deadlines if your student wants to live on campus. To apply for on-campus housing, keep an eye on the first-year student priority dates. As a reminder, the housing application opens beginning Oct. 1 for spring 2022 and Feb. 1 for fall 2022.
Alternately, if your student plans to commute, you must submit the Mandatory Housing Exemption form via the residence services website.

Register for DKS
An important step your student will take to become a Golden Flash is attending the orientation program. At orientation, your student will have the opportunity get a Flashcard, connect with their academic home and register for classes! Destination Kent State (DKS) is mandatory for first-year students – plus parents, family and guests can attend.
Mark your calendar - registration begins Oct. 1 for spring 2022 and Feb. 1 for fall 2022.

Prepare for classes and DKS
It is very important that your student completes the steps on this checklist so they will be able to register for classes at DKS. Make sure your student has:
- Completed the placement assessments at least three days before attending DKS. These will be available in FlashLine.
- Submitted their final high school transcripts and scores.
- This includes AP/IB scores and college transcripts for any college courses completed during high school. You will submit this information to the Admissions Office.
- Reviewed class scheduling timelines to ensure that they get the classes they are most interested in.
- Reviewed tuition payment options. Access this information with your student on the One Stop website.

Deferral Procedures
If you only intend to study remotely temporarily or you are interested in deferring your admission, please notify us of your plans by submitting the Deferral Request Form. This form will let International Admissions and the team that creates your I-20 know that changes need to be made. If you already have an I-20, then you will need an updated immigration document. This form will help us to take the necessary steps to provide that document to you. The deadline to complete this form for Fall Semester 2021 is to be determined.
