LPN to ADN Track Technical Study Sequence

Program Basics

  • The LPN to ADN program takes 17 months to complete once accepted into Technical Study Sequence.
  • The program is offered on four KSU campuses: Ashtabula, East Liverpool, Tuscawaras, Geauga - Twinsburg Academic Center.
  • Technical Study Sequence starts in the spring semester (Paramedic to LPN track) at Geauga-Twinsburg Academic Center
  • No waiting list

LPN to ADN Advanced Standing Track

  • Appropriate for students who are an LPN with active, unrestricted license
  • 17-month program once admitted into Technical Study Sequence 
  • Prerequisite coursework required 
  • Day or Alternative track options based on seat availability 
    • Joins traditional track 2nd year students for Fall and Spring semesters 
  • Technical Study Sequence begins in January 
  • *A student who did not pass a transitions course at another College or University cannot be admitted into this track but may apply for admission to the traditional ADN track. 
  • **License must be active by October 1 of the admission year.

IMPORTANT POLICY-  LPN TO ADN 

Students who passed an LPN transition course at another college or university will still need to take NRST 10016.  A student who did not pass an LPN transition course at another college or university cannot be admitted into the LPN to ADN program option but may apply for admission to traditional ADN program.

In-Program Schedule of Courses

  • Each nursing course has 3 components: Lecture, Lab, and Clinical
  • Program will require 2-4 days each week for availability
  • Required non-nursing courses have various schedule options: day, evening, and online
  • Typical clinical hours:
    • Day clinical 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
    • Alternative clinical 3 p.m. - 11 p.m.

Program options

Day Track

  • Monday through Friday and potential for some Saturdays
  • Must have availability 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Possibility of an evening clinical in rare instances; students will be notified in advance.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible

Alternative Track

  • Monday through Friday afternoon/evening and potential for some Saturdays
  • Must have availability 12 p.m. - 11 p.m.
  • Possibility of a day clinical in rare instances; students will be notified in advance
  • Saturday clinical may be 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. or 3 p.m. - 11 p.m.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible

LPN to ADN Advanced Standing Cohort

  • In two clinical courses at one time 
  • Begin in the Spring semester with LPN to ADN transitions course. Must complete to move to year two 
  • Spring/Summer/Fall/Spring semester: Monday through Friday, potential for Saturday or Sunday requirements 
  • Must have availability 4 days each week, days may change each semester 
  • May have online assignments throughout the week 
  • 17 months- January of year 1 to May of year 2 
  • Must be adaptable and flexible

* A student who did not pass an LPN transition course at another college or university, cannot be admitted into the LPN to ADN program option but may apply for admission to ADN program.

LPN to ADN Track Students Only

  • The Technical Study Sequence begins in January with LPN to ADN Transitions course (NRST 10016). After completion of Spring and Summer semesters, will bridge into year two with traditional students for the Fall and Spring semesters. Will choose day or alternative track. 
  • NRST 10016 will meet in person 2 days per week January-May  (lecture, lab and clinical requirements) *Students must be available for all in person requirements for the duration of the course (8am-5pm). May have online assignments and requirements.  
  • LPN’s who are unsuccessful in NRST 10016 and still wish to pursue an associate degree in nursing may request readmission to NRST 10016 one time only or elect to request readmission and begin in NRST 10011 after meeting with student services to understand financial impact of the decision. 
  • Prior to completion of NRST 10016, LPN students may request credit be awarded from an active LPN license using the Evaluation of License/Certificate process. This request should be directed to their advisor, faculty, or program director. If approved, the student will earn 12 credits that will appear in their transcript. Students will not be required to take NURS 20950, Human Growth and Development due to LPN licensure.

Admission Prerequisites

  • Accepted to Kent State University by October 1 before the spring you plan to begin
  • Complete information session requirement and documents by October 1 before the spring you plan to begin
  • Apply to Nursing ADN program by October 1 before the spring you plan to begin - application opens March 1 each year
  • 2.7 cumulative GPA from the most recent school you have attended where at least 12 credits have been completed
    • If you have ever attended Kent State University in the past but took fewer than 12 credit hours, your Kent GPA must be minimum 2.0 and the most recent school where 12 credits have been earned must at least 2.70.
    • All transcripts from all schools attended are reviewed
  • "C" grade or higher in all courses required for nursing program.
  • Must be completed prior to admission:
    • BSCI 11010 or 21010
    • Chemistry experience in HS or College
    • UC 10001
    • Eligible to take Math 10040/10041 or higher level
    • Eligible to take college level writing
  • Must be completing prior to entering fall semester of 2nd year:
    • Kent Core math requirement - MATH 10040/10041 recommended
    • BSCI 11020 or 21020
    • NUTR 23511
    • PSYC 11762
  • All transcripts received from all schools attended, regardless of how old transcript is
