Explore the incredible world of native plants and the vital role they play in sustaining our planet’s biodiversity. Gain practical knowledge on how to incorporate native plants into your own yard and learn about the Summit Metro Parks “Wild Back Yards” incentive program. Wildflower seeds will be available to take home, while supplies last.
 

3) Not All Butterflies are Snowbirds, Presented by Mary Lynn Delfino of Cuyahoga Valley National Park
The migrating monarch is not typical. Learn how Ohio’s butterflies overwinter in our own backyards and what we can do to support their lifecycles through native plantings and simple land-management practices.
 

4) How to Fill Your ICE Box, Presented by Carolyn Lookabill of Caring Services LLC
Seniors all know that we should have a plan for emergencies. We may have some of the documents and plans should we not be able to speak for ourselves. But knowing how to organize that information and have a plan that can work is sometimes the missing step. This presentation will teach participants how to organize an IN CASE OF EMERGENCY or ICE box with important documents, and plans that will help your selected advocate know what to do if a crisis should occur. We will also review how an iphone can be a useful tool in helping participants to maintain a high level of independence as they age.

6) Gardening for Wildlife, Presented by Janean Curfman of Summit Metro Parks
What do butterflies, birds, fireflies and even salamanders have in common? They all need food, water, shelter and space to thrive. We’ll discuss best practices to turn your back yard, however large or small, into a well-rounded wildlife oasis for a variety of beloved native animals using a combination of native plants and wildlife-friendly features.

12) Memoir Writing, Presented by Stephanie Greer of Kent State Twinsburg Academic Center
Would you like to preserve your memories and family history for your loved ones? In this interactive workshop, we will discuss examples of memoir, and participants will practice writing about a specific memory of their own by responding to a prompt. Options for eventually sharing or self-publishing your memories will also be provided.
