Kent State Tuscarawas Honored with 2017 Tree Campus USA by Arbor Day Foundation

The Arbor Day Foundation has awarded Kent State Tuscarawas recognition as a 2017 Tree Campus USA for its commitment to effective urban forest management. The Tree Campus USA program honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. The program is celebrating its 10th year.

To obtain this distinction, Kent State Tuscarawas met the five core standards for effective campus forest management: form a tree advisory committee, develop a campus tree care plan, dedicate annual expenditures for its campus tree program, observe Arbor Day and implement student service-learning projects.

“Being recognized as part of the Tree Campus USA program is a point of pride for our campus,” said Chad Conrad, Kent State Tuscarawas director of advancement. “We’re taking great strides to improve our local campus for our student and the community, while making a commitment to our educational environment at the same time.”

The Arbor Day Foundation has helped campuses throughout the country plant thousands of trees, and Tree Campus USA colleges and universities invested more than $48 million in campus forest management last year. Currently, there are 344 campuses across the United States with this recognition.

Kent State Tuscarawas is located at 330 University Dr. NE in New Philadelphia.
