Adult Learners
At Kent State Tuscarawas, we welcome adult students and look forward to providing the information and support you need. Here we've gathered some great resources, but feel free to contact us if you have other questions.
In the words of a student...
"As an adult student, deciding to seek a college degree was a scary decision. After being out of school for ten years, I was worried that I would not be accepted. I chose to enroll at Kent State University at Tuscarawas because of the low tuition costs, small class size and the academic opportunities that it offered. It is hard to choose my favorite aspect of Kent State Tuscarawas, so instead, I will say that I am grateful for the personal guidance that I received from faculty and administrative staff. The many opportunities that they introduced me to allowed me to grow into the person that I am today." -Ryan Fails, 2014
APPLYING FOR ADMISSION
The application process is similar for all students, with the exception of ACT or SAT scores. We don't need ACT or SAT scores if you are 21 years or older. Adults students must submit:
- Application for admission
- High school transcript (simply call your high school to request they send your transcript to us)
- Application fee of $40
- College transcripts (if you are a transfer student)
PLACEMENT
We want you to get a great start at Kent State Tuscarawas! If you're over 21 years old, we'll have you complete assessments in reading, writing and math so you are placed appropriately in those subject areas. You'll take the Accuplacer assessment in reading and writing on our campus as well as the online ALEKS math assessment. Once you are accepted for admission, we'll let you know how to take these assessments.
REGISTERING FOR CLASSES
We'll help you choose your classes, from your first semester to your last, so you stay on track to graduate. For your first semester, you'll attend a Student Overview, Advising and Registration (SOAR) session, then in future semesters you'll meet individually with an academic advisor who knows your major. Transfer students do not attend SOAR but instead see an advisor for first-semester enrollment.
