Golden Eagles’ Tharp scores 1000th Career Point

Kent State University at Tuscarawas’ Gunnar Tharp, of East Canton, scored his 1000th career point on Sunday, October 28, 2018, as the Golden Eagles opened the 2018-2019 basketball season by dominating Ohio University Zanesville 132-74. Tharp, a graduate of Canton South High School, is a sophomore majoring in both criminology and justice studies and sociology. He ended the game with 14 points. The navy and gold were led by LJ Williams, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and a graduate of Winston-Salem Preparatory Academy, with 22 points, while Trevor Donaldson, of Dover and a graduate of Garaway High School, scored 21 points on perfect seven for seven shooting from behind the three-point arc.

In 2017-2018, Tharp earned Honorable Mention All-American honors from the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). He also led the Golden Eagles in total points and finished third nationally in the USCAA with 568 points, was second in three-point shots made with 133, ranked fourth in free throw percentage at 85.9 and was 11th in scoring average with 19.6 points per game.
