Kent State Tuscarawas Launches Memorial Scholarship for Engineering Students

This past month, the Kent State University at Tuscarawas community lost a beloved friend and leader in Dr. Kamal Bichara, longtime emeritus professor and former engineering technology director at the Tuscarawas Campus.

He passed away leaving a lasting impact on thousands of individuals, whether they had him as a professor, advisor or even as an acquaintance over his long career at Kent State Tuscarawas. He will be greatly missed, as he was a trailblazer in engineering technology here for nearly 40 years.

To commemorate his dedication and commitment to engineering and our students, the Tuscarawas campus has launched an effort to establish an endowed scholarship in his name. It will be known as the Dr. Kamal F. Bichara Memorial Endowed Scholarship, which will be awarded to engineering technology students.

“We would like to honor and celebrate Dr. Bichara’s commendable work as an educator over the span of four decades at Kent State University,” said Brad Bielski, dean and chief administrative officer at Kent State Tuscarawas. “He is leaving a lasting legacy and helped countless students make their mark on the world through engineering and technology.”

Bichara’s passion for the field of technology was unmatched and demonstrated in his career by gearing his students with vast knowledge, the latest technology and all the tools that he could provide to see them excel.

He also served as a member of several career-based organizations such as the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) and Engineering in Medicine & Biology (EMB).

To help us impact students and recognize Dr. Bichara, individuals can send contributions payable to the Tuscarawas County University Foundation, c/o Kent State Tuscarawas, 330 University Dr. NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or visit www.kent.edu/tusc/giving to give online.
