New Scholarship Established to Make a Difference for Students

The legacy and dedication of Connie Espenschied Hess, one of Kent State University at Tuscarawas’ first employees, will carry on after her passing in 2020 with the establishment of a new scholarship that encourages students to be their best.

The Connie Espenshied Hess Make a Difference Scholarship was created to perpetuate Hess’ mission of encouraging all students to continue their formal education after high school no matter their circumstances. During her 35-year tenure at Kent State Tuscarawas, Hess helped many students achieve this goal.

Hess shared her many talents with Kent State Tuscarawas starting in 1968, entering the educational system as a secretary, moving into administration and ultimately becoming Director of Admissions.

During her years with the Tuscarawas Campus, Hess received several recognitions for her dedication, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Student Activities Committee and the Kent State University Regional Campuses Award for Outstanding Service. Upon retirement, she was recognized with the designation of an Emeriti Administrative Staff member.

To help honor her caring impact, gifts can be made to the Make a Difference Scholarship fund by visiting www.TuscUniversityFoundation.org or sending contributions payable to the Tuscarawas County University Foundation, c/o Connie Espenschied Hess Scholarship Fund, 330 University Dr. NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
