Spring Commencement Address

CHARITA M. GOSHAY
Award-winning columnist, The Repository

Charita GoshayCharita M. Goshay is an award-winning journalist and a nationally syndicated columnist for GateHouse Media. A native of Canton, she graduated from Timken High School and went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in communication studies at Kent State University. Charita minored in photojournalism.
 
Charita began working at The (Canton) Repository in 1990. She started as the daily newspaper’s in-house librarian, moving on to become an editorial assistant and, then, a staff writer.
 
Charita now covers religion for The Rep and is an award-winning columnist. She is a 10-time Associated Press Best Columnist in Ohio, and has earned recognition from the Stark County Bar Association, the Greater Canton Martin Luther King Jr. Commission, the Ohio Legislature, Canton City Schools, Canton City Council and the Boy Scouts of America, among other organizations. She also serves as a member of The Repository’s editorial board.
 
Charita is a founding board member of Habitat for Humanity, East Central Ohio. She also is a graduate of Leadership Stark County.
 
In 2003, Charita wrote and coproduced “As I was Saying,” the first of three live stage shows, based on a collection of her newspaper columns. She also has written plays on the lives of Hank Williams and Pete Seeger.
 
Lastly, Charita is a lifelong suffering, but faithful, Cleveland Browns fan.
