Sociology & Criminology
The Department of Sociology and Criminology offers two undergraduate degrees: the B.A. in Sociology, and the B.A. in Criminology & Justice Studies. Both programs offer students training that can be used for a variety of different occupations and careers.
Sociology is the scientific study of social life and the social causes and consequences of human behavior. Sociologists investigate the structure of groups, organizations, and societies, and how people interact within these contexts.
Criminology & Justice Studies explores the causes of crime and delinquency. It includes subjects such as law and society, and analyzes the components of the criminal and juvenile justice systems. Students learn about scientific approaches to the study of the crime problem and related solutions.
