Hello Residents,
This email is being sent to all students who currently live on campus. Please read and save this email as it outlines the process to sign up for on-campus housing for next year.
As a reminder, Kent State University requires all students to live on campus during their first two years. This policy is in effect until a student attains junior class standing (60 credits) prior to the start of the fall semester; will turn 20 years old prior to the start of the fall semester; or has already lived on campus for four semesters. (If you have submitted any housing exemption documentation for 2026-27, please refer to the approval/denial email you would have received.)
If you are required to or wish to live on campus next year, you will have the opportunity to renew your residence hall contract online for the 2026-27 academic year. Beginning Wednesday, January 14 at 10am, you will be able to access next year’s housing application.
Using the application, you will be able to make your $150 initial housing payment and $40 application fee; to request and confirm a roommate for next year; and to indicate whether you wish to renew a room in your current residence hall. Should you not wish to renew a room in your current residence hall for the 2026-2027 academic year, you will be able to return to your application in March and select a new room for next year. Mid-February, you will also receive a more specific email with additional details on the contract renewal process. This email will inform you of your Room Selection Timeslot – this determines when you are first able to go online in March and select a room (if you do not wish to return to your current assignment). We determine your room selection timeslot based on a number of factors, including what your class standing will be at the end of the current academic year. Students will be placed in a contract renewal group based on their class standing as of the end of the academic year. The contract renewal groups will select rooms with those students who will have 30-59 credit hours at the end of the academic year selecting first. The next group of students will be those that will have 1-29 credit hours at the end of the academic year. The third group of students will include those that will have 60 plus credit hours and graduate students. A randomized process will be used to assign a timeslot where each student within each of the contract renewal groups will be able to log into the housing portal in March to self-select a room for next year. Once your start time has begun, you will be able to log in and look for open rooms until April 4th.
Please take time to review the Housing Application for Returning Students website. The information provided will address details about the process and will answer most of the specific questions that you may have. This includes a listing of changes occurring in any residence hall facilities. If you have questions that are not answered in the guide, please send an email to housing@kent.edu.
We wish you a successful spring semester at Kent State University!
Sincerely,
University Housing |
