Room Selection Process

Spring 2026 Housing Application opens on Oct. 1, 2025

Room Selection process varies by semester. We encourage students to apply early to maximize their options.

 

 

Fall 2025 Semester Housing

Students who apply for housing by March 24 will be in the first wave for room selection!  

Room Selection opens in waves based on the date students submit their housing application. We encourage students to apply early to maximize their options.

Selection times are assigned through a randomized process. As part of the selection, students will receive a random, computer-generated timeslot. Each timeslot indicates when a student can begin selecting a room.  Room Selection times will be sent to students' Kent State email accounts on May 6, 2025.

  • Students who submit their housing application on or before March 24 will be in the first wave of room selection beginning on May 12 and be entered into a random drawing for one of five $500 scholarships.
  • Students who submit their housing application after March 24 will be in the second wave of room selection beginning on May 19.
 

New students who submit their housing application by May 1 can select their own room!

Room Selection times will be sent to students' Kent State email accounts on May 6, 2025.

 

Students in Special Interest Groups

Certain students participating in specialized programs (e.g., those working with an academic advisor, coach, or counselor) will have room assignments coordinated between their program and University Housing. These assignments will be made on a rolling basis through fall opening. Students with questions about their room assignment can contact their specific program for assistance.

FALL 2025 ROOM SELECTION DETAILS

Applied for Fall Housing on or before March 24
  • Living-Learning Community (LLC) Students
    • LLC students will select their room on May 8 and 9, 2025 from designated halls or floors assigned to their LLC.
    • Students can continue logging in to make changes to their room selection until June 15, 2025.
  • All Other Students
    • Students will receive a timeslot to select a room between May 12 and May 15, 2025.
    • Timeslots will be staggered every 20 minutes, starting May 12.
    • Once a student’s timeslot begins, they can log in at any time afterward to select a room.
    • Changes to room selection can be made through June 15, 2025.
  • After All Room Selection Timeslots
    • Students may continue to log in and view available rooms until June 15, 2025.
    • Students who do not participate in Room Selection will be assigned to a room by University Housing starting June 16, 2025.
    • Room Swap Period: During the Week of July 28, 2025, students may exchange room assignments one-for-one with other students.
Applied for Fall Housing between March 25 and May 1
  • Living-Learning Community (LLC) Students
    • LLC students will select their room on May 8 and 9, 2025 from designated halls or floors assigned to their LLC.
    • Students can continue logging in to make changes to their room selection until June 15, 2025.
  • All Other Students
    • Students will receive a timeslot to select a room between May 19 and May 23, 2025.
    • Timeslots will be staggered every 20 minutes, starting May 19.
    • Once a student’s timeslot begins, they can log in at any time afterward to select a room.
    • Changes to room selection can be made through June 15, 2025.
  • After All Room Selection Timeslots
    • Students who do not participate in Room Selection will be assigned to a room by University Housing starting June 16, 2025.
    • Students may continue to log in and view available rooms until June 15, 2025.
    • Room Swap Period: During the Week of July 28, 2025, students may exchange room assignments one-for-one with other students.
Applied for Fall Housing after May 1
  • Students who complete their housing application after May 1 your room selection date will be assigned on a rolling basis starting May 28, 2025.
  • Students may continue to log in and view available rooms until June 15, 2025.
  • Students who do not participate in room selection will be assigned to a room by University Housing starting June 16, 2025.
  • Room Swap Period: During the Week of July 28, 2025, students may exchange room assignments one-for-one with other students.
Spring 2026 Semester Housing
  • The Spring 2026 Housing Application opens on Oct. 1, 2025
  • Students can apply for housing in the Student Housing Portal
  • Room self-selection is not available for Spring
  • Spring 2026 room assignments will begin the week of Jan. 5, 2026
  • Room assignments will be sent via email and can also be viewed in the Student Housing Portal
