Spring Break Housing

Kent State University’s residence halls close at 7pm on Friday, March 23, 2018 for spring break. Residence Services offers housing to current residents who need to remain on campus during spring break. Students who sign up for spring break housing will be able to remain in their current room on the days that they request break housing, at a rate of $35 per night.

Students who only need to stay late or overnight on Friday, March 23, 2018 must contact their Residence Hall Director to seek approval. Students who need to stay overnight beginning on Saturday, March 24, 2018, and before Sunday, April 1, 2018 must apply using the link below:

Spring Break Housing Application

Students who have not signed up for break housing will not have access to the residence halls during break, but students can leave their belongings in their rooms. Students should make sure they take all items they need during the break!

Meal Plans are not active and dining choices on campus are limited during the break. Visit Dining Services webpage for break dining information.

The residence halls will reopen at 9am on Sunday, April 1, 2018.

Can I stay in my residence hall room during break? What do I need to do?

The residence halls officially close at 7pm on Friday, March 23, 2018. In order to stay in your room during spring break, you must fill out a break housing application using the link above.

Am I eligible for spring break housing?

Students are only eligible for break housing if they currently have a housing assignment for the spring semester.

What do I do if I only need to stay until Saturday when the halls are scheduled to close at 7pm on Friday night?

Depending on extenuating circumstances, your Residence Hall Director may be able to grant you permission to remain in the hall for a short period after the halls have officially closed. Please visit your Residence Hall Director during their office hours to discuss your situation.

What staff members will be working with break housing?

Your Residence Hall Director (RHD) will have office hours during break. The Security Aide staff will maintain their usual hours during break as well.

What are the Security Aide program’s hours during break?

During break, Security Aides will be on duty between 8pm and 2:30am nightly. The number to contact security is 330-672-7004.

How much does break housing cost?

Break housing is billed at a nightly rate of $35. Charges will be applied to each student’s university account at the conclusion of the break.

If I am not staying on campus for break, when can I return to my residence hall?

The residence halls will reopen at 9am on Sunday, April 1, 2018. Students who need to arrive before this date can use the spring break housing application above to apply. There is a $35 nightly charge for students returning before Sunday, April 1 at 9am.

What do I do if I am living on campus during break and I get locked out of my room?

You can contact the Tri Towers area desk at (330)672-3244, 24 hours a day, to receive assistance.

While I am away on break, will my room be inspected?

After the halls close for break, residence hall staff conduct a visual safety and security inspection inside all student rooms. During visual inspections, staff are instructed not to open drawers or closets or search through personal belongings. Staff will observe only those things that are in plain sight in the room.
