Residential Engagement Council Goes Virtual
Not allowing the restrictions on large campus gatherings to stop their progress, the Lake/Olson Residential Engagement Council has moved their weekly meeting to Instagram Live. Residential Engagement Councils are the governing body of each residence hall(s) and the main programming body for the hall(s). Lake/Olson has seen success this fall by leveraging Instagram Live to host their meetings. During general body meetings, residents can easily tune in on their phones and attendance is taken through emojis designated for each floor. Even students from other halls have tuned in. RAs can request to join the Instagram Live to propose their program budgets and at the end of each meeting a passcode is provided that residents can use to grab some food in the lounge afterward – grab-n-go style! Recordings of the meetings are saved on Instagram Live for students who may have missed it. This type of residential engagement opportunity is a great example of how Residential Engagement Councils across halls can use their virtual platforms for creative engagement and further support our initiatives to increase attendance and engagement of residential students.
