🏠Housing for 2027-2028: Here's What You Need to Know 11/2/2026

Hello Golden Flashes! đź’›đź’™

Thinking about where you’ll live next year? Now is the time to get your housing plans started!

This email has the important details you need to know about renewing your on-campus housing for the 2027–2028 academic year. We recommend saving this email so you can easily come back to it later.

🏠 First things first: Do you need to live on campus?

Kent State requires students to live on campus during their first two years unless they meet one of the following criteria before the start of the fall semester:

  • You will have 60+ credit hours (junior standing)
  • You will be 20 years old
  • You have already lived on campus for four semesters

The Housing Exemption process for the 2027-2028 academic year will open on Thursday, November 5 at 10 a.m.

đź“… Mark your calendar: November 5 at 10 a.m.

Starting Thursday, November 5 at 10 a.m., you can access the Housing Application for Returning Students through the housing portal.

When you complete the application, you’ll be able to:

  • đź’° Make your $150 initial housing payment and $40 application fee
  • 👯 Request and confirm a roommate/suitemate and complete your roommate matching profile
  • 🍴 Select a meal plan
  • 🏡 Let us know if you want to renew to your current residence hall

Want to stay in your current residence hall? You’ll be able to indicate that in your application. The Renew to Your Hall option closes on November 23.

Want to switch it up next year? No problem! If you don't want to return to your current residence hall, you’ll be able to come back to your application in February and select a new room.

🎯 So...when can you pick your room?

In mid-February, you’ll receive another email with the details you need for the next step, including your Room Selection Timeslot.

Your timeslot tells you when you can first log in during February to select a room if you aren't renewing your current hall.

Your timeslot is randomly assigned within your housing renewal group. Your group is based on the number of credit hours you are expected to have at the end of Spring 2027.

Once your timeslot begins, you can log into the housing portal and look for available rooms. Your timeslot isn't a one-and-done moment—you can continue checking for available rooms until July 1.

🔎 Want all the details?

We know housing questions can get complicated, so we’ve put together a Housing Application for Returning Students webpage with more information about the process, important dates, and changes happening in residence halls.
