The rivalry
The Wagon Wheel
The rivalry dates to 1923, and since 1946 the winner of Kent State vs. The School Down the Road has taken home a wooden wagon wheel painted blue and gold. Legend says it came off the buggy of John R. Buchtel, the original namesake of The School Down the Road, when it stuck in the mud on what is now the Kent Campus. Last November the Flashes won it back in overtime on the road, and it now hangs in Kent State's locker room.
