Kent State Golden Flashes Heading to GoDaddy.com Bowl

On Sunday, Dec. 2, Kent State University accepted an invitation to play in the GoDaddy.com Bowl, marking the program’s first bowl appearance in 40 years. The Kent State Golden Flashes will take on Arkansas State University on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.

12-03-12-Image-for-GoDaddy-com-Bowl_1.jpg After winning a program record 11 games, Kent State will be making its third bowl appearance, while looking for its first bowl victory. The Golden Flashes went to the Refrigerator Bowl in 1954 and the Tangerine Bowl in 1972. 

Mid-American Conference (MAC) teams (Northern Illinois University, Miami University and Central Michigan University) have won the GoDaddy.com Bowl in each of the past three seasons. This year’s game kicks off at 9 p.m. and will air on ESPN.

The 2012 Sun Belt champion Arkansas State Red Wolves are 9-3, coming off a 45-0 blowout of Middle Tennessee State University (8-4) this past Saturday.

A record seven MAC teams will be playing in bowl games, including Northern Illinois in the Discover Orange Bowl. Last year, the MAC went 4-1 in bowl games, winning the ESPN Bowl Challenge Cup.
