Individual Awards

These awards recognize individual undergraduate students for their dedication to leadership development and impact they have had at Kent State University.

 

Nominations will open on Monday, 2/26/24, and will close on Friday, 3/22/24. Finalists will be recognized at the Student Leadership Awards and Transition Ceremony on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at 6 PM.

Vanguard for Change Award

The Vanguard for Change Award is presented to a student who has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the values of diversity, inclusion, justice, equity, and service. Candidates should have implemented programs, projects, or initiatives that address social inequities.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Flash Humanitarian Award

The Flash Humanitarian Award is presented to a student who has exemplified integrity, service, and social responsibility, with a demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the greater campus and Kent State community. Candidates should have demonstrated a commitment to projects and initiatives that positively contributes to their communities.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Kent State Impact Award

The Kent State Impact Award is presented to a student whose presence has had far-reaching impact on the university community. Candidates should have demonstrated innovation in addressing a university need, whose leadership has created a positive campus environment, and who has enhanced the overall quality of student life.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Outstanding Senior Leader Award

The Outstanding Senior Leader Award is presented to a senior who has displayed outstanding leadership and a sustained commitment to academic excellence, community involvement, and service to the University and Kent community throughout their college career. Nominators should indicate ways in which the candidate has demonstrated good scholarship and exceptional campus participation in both breadth and depth.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Earned a minimum of 90 credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Outstanding Emerging Leader Award

The Outstanding Emerging Leader Award is presented to a freshman or sophomore student who has shown tremendous growth and leadership promise through their campus involvement and contributions to student life.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Earned less than 60credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Peer Mentorship Award

The Peer Mentorship Award is presented to a student who has served as a mentor or peer educator to their fellow students, team members, or classmates. Candidates should have demonstrated a commitment to sharing their knowledge, abilities, and experiences to help develop the capacities of others.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5

 

Purposeful Leader Award

The Purposeful Leader Award is presented to a student who has demonstrated a strong sense of personal awareness and development. Nominees should have shown a commitment to personal and university values and engaging others to actively reflect on their own values.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Unsung Hero Award

The Unsung Hero Award is presented to a student who has shown that leadership can be enacted from anywhere within a group. Candidates should have demonstrated a commitment to positively influence a program or organization from behind the scenes with a willingness to help in whatever capacity necessary.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
Servant Leader Award

The Servant Leader Award is presented to a student who has exemplified leadership through their desire to serve others. Candidates should have demonstrated ways in which they empower their peers and have an investment in the growth and development of others.

Candidates for this award must also meet the following criteria:

  • Enrolled in at least 8 undergraduate credit hours
  • Have a current cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
