Kent State to Host Brain Health Summit

With stress levels on the rise and mental health being one of the most crucial issues in public health today, Kent State University is hosting the Brain Health Summit on Wednesday, Feb. 21, to share the importance of a healthy brain. The event is presented by Kent State’s Division for Research and Sponsored Programs and Kent State of Wellness, a university-wide effort that promotes a culture of health and wellness for students and employees at all Kent State campuses.

The Brain Health Summit will be from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Kent Student Center Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The summit will feature multiple speakers and the opportunity to ask experts about how to improve brain health. A healthy lunch also will be provided.

Kent State of Wellness Director Melissa Celko said that the overall goal of this event is for attendees to leave with at least one new strategy to improve their lives.

“One of the most important things we have in our lives is our brain,” Ms. Celko said. “The brain is so central to what we do, whether it involves thinking, learning, innovating or creating. It allows us to activate in the world.”

There will be discussions throughout the event on how everyone can improve the health of his or her brain and quality of thinking through lifestyle changes that include movement, nutrition and stress reduction.

“Giving people the best information on how to have a healthy brain is crucial to our overall health and well-being,” Ms. Celko said.

Professors from Kent State’s College of Public Health, Department of Psychological Sciences, School of Health Sciences and the Brain Health Research Institute are joining together to facilitate this event. Ms. Celko believes this collaboration is an opportunity for everyone to get together, share information and make meaningful and impactful changes in their lives.

The registration deadline for the Brain Health Summit is Monday, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m. To register for the Brain Health Summit, visit www.kent.edu/stateofwellness/summit.
