Local media are invited to climb to the top of the Kent State University Field House on Wednesday, June 13, at 1:30 p.m. to view the ongoing installation of 1,716 solar panels. The panels cover almost one full acre of the roof and will generate about 500,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which is about one-third of the annual power used by both the university’s Field House and Dix Stadium – enough to power about 50 average homes

The solar panel project, scheduled to be completed early next month, is the first renewable energy project for Kent State. The panels will eliminate an average of 779,000 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per year, which is roughly equivalent to removing 70 cars from the road per year.

Interested media representatives will be escorted two at a time to the top of the field house for video, photos, interviews, and/or standup opportunities. Those who step onto the roof will be required to wear a hard hat and be tethered for safety.

Project manager Rob Philips and project superintendent Tim McMillian will be on site and available for interviews.

When:  Wednesday, 6/13, at 1:30 p.m.

Where: Kent State University Field House, 2227 Summit Road, Kent, Ohio 44242 (located next to Dix Stadium)

Please RSVP to Eric Mansfield to reserve your opportunity to climb to the rooftop.
