Instead of heading home to relax following the conclusion of finals week, a group of Kent State University student-athletes traveled to Aguacate, Belize, to partner with Courts for Kids on a service project from May 16-24.

A total of 19 student-athletes volunteered to make the trip and were accompanied by five staff members as they aided community members in the construction of a multipurpose sports court located next to the local school.

The Burr Magazine, Kent State’s general interest student magazine, was named the best student magazine in the nation by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). Kent State also earned national finalist status in two categories in SPJ’s annual national Mark of Excellence Awards competition.

In each category, SPJ chooses one winner and up to two national finalists from student journalists’ submissions from across the United States.

The Kent State University women’s golf team finished tied for fifth at the 2017 NCAA National Championship, falling Tuesday, May 23, in the quarterfinals match play round to top seeded Northwestern, 3-2.

The Kent State Golden Flashes completed its best run at the NCAA National Championship, beating its previous best finish of 15th place. Kent State also became the first program to ever advance to match play of the women’s golf championship from outside of the “Power 5” conferences.

For the second straight year, the Kent State University baseball team has been crowned the outright Mid-American Conference (MAC) regular season champions, a feat now accomplished 14 times in program history.

The Kent State Golden Flashes clinched the title and the No. 1 seed at the MAC Tournament, but the 5-2 win at Ohio University on May 20 secured the outright championship.

After taking the first two games of the series, the OU Bobcats got a one-run lead in the second inning when a hit batter came around to score on a sacrifice bunt.

The No. 12 Kent State University men’s golf team has booked its ticket to the 2017 NCAA National Championship with a second-place finish at the Washington Regional at 3-over par 855 (287-282-286).
