The 20th anniversary of FlashFest took place Thursday, April 24, at 3 p.m. on the Student Green. This annual Kent State University tradition featured live performances, food, games and prizes.

Four artists performed at this year’s FlashFest, headlined by Capital Cities along with Ab-Soul, Scavenger Hunt, and Evan Evolution and Dominic Parisi. The performances  began at 4 p.m. on the Student Green.

Kent State University President Lester A. Lefton and Kent City Manager Dave Ruller will make a special presentation to representatives from the city and university safety forces on Tuesday, April 29. The presentation of specially designed T-shirts recognizes the creation of a joint police patrol district in the area between the west edge of the Kent State campus and the city of Kent.

Brock Bernholtz, Kent State University junior entrepreneurship major, is the CEO and founder of InCheck Services LLC, a drop-off tracking application that allows customers to stay in touch with items that are dropped off for repairs, changes and more.

Bernholtz and his two partners wanted to create a mobile application that was universal and could be modified for a company’s particular industry. This one-size-fits-all concept leaves room for growth and opportunity within various and diverse fields.

Kent State University was selected to receive $500,000 in state grant funds for expanded co-op and internship programs. The funds are part of a state investment of close to $11 million over the next two years with matching dollars from key industries across the state.

The university will use the funds to expand relationships with companies and further support career-related services; create centralized operations to better support decentralized activities; and use best practices to create sustainable programs, support companies, and ensure academic integrity of experiences.

New Wheels on Kent State Campus Turn Heads

The green flash that you see out of the corner of your eye on the Kent State University campus is not an alien pod or an insect on steroids.

Elf1_1_0.jpeg This “sun-powered trike,” as its inventor calls it, is an ELF – an “electric, light, fun” vehicle driven to work by Paulette Washko, director of research compliance in the Division of Research and Sponsored Programs at the university’s Kent Campus.

Kent State University’s Ohio Employee Ownership Center will host the 28th Annual Ohio Employee Ownership Conference on Thursday, April 24, at the Hilton West in Fairlawn. The theme for the conference is “A Wealth of Opportunity: Employee Ownership Fuels Growth.”

Lil’ Sibs Weekend, titled Sibs in Space, will be held from Friday, April 25, through Sunday, April 27. It is open to little siblings (or cousins or family friends) of students, as well as children of Kent State University faculty and staff members.

Lil’ Sibs Weekend is hosted by Kent Interhall Council (KIC). The weekend-long event has been a KIC tradition for more than 35 years.

Most of the events are free, but registration is required. Note that some events are only open to the lil’ sibs of residence hall students.

On March 7, 2014, the Center for Applied Conflict Management held a conference in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Center's BA degree program, which began in the 1973-74 academic year.  This is one of the country's largest and most robust programs in Peace and Conflict Studies.  This year is also the inaugural years of the Conflict Analysis and Management Doctoral track in the PhD program in Political Science at Kent State.  The March conference celebrated both milestones.
